The BMW R1100 GS was a groundbreaking adventure bike produced from 1994 to 1999 that permanently shaped BMW's reputation in the travel enduro segment. It featured an air- and oil-cooled 1,085 cc boxer engine producing 80 hp and a high torque of 97 Nm, which was particularly advantageous for long tours and off-road use.
The R1100 GS featured innovative technology, including the Paralever rear suspension system, which decoupled the drive from the chassis movement, and the Telelever front suspension, which provided greater stability during braking. These systems significantly improved handling, especially on rough surfaces and at high speed.
With its distinctive design, high seating position, and versatility both on and off-road, the R1100 GS quickly became a favorite among adventurers and touring riders. It laid the foundation for the popular GS series, which BMW continues to successfully produce today, and is considered a milestone in the travel enduro segment.
