In light of declining sales figures, product planners at the Nuremberg-based Zweirad-Union hoped to retain customers with "road cruisers on two wheels." Thus, starting in 1960, the Zweirad Union in Nuremberg produced these 40 km/h mopeds and 70 km/h small motorcycles, disparagingly called "tin bananas," which attempted to copy the common design language of the cars of the time with their generous amounts of sheet metal, lots of chrome, and sleek edges.
