The Simson S51/1 is a moped from the former GDR (East Germany) that was produced from 1980 to 1990. A further development of the popular S51, it built on its success and offered several technical improvements, such as improved electronics and a more robust construction. The S51/1 was equipped with a 50 cc two-stroke engine that produced approximately 3.6 hp and enabled a top speed of up to 60 km/h (37 mph). It was known for both its reliability and easy maintenance, which made it particularly popular with young people and commuters. Today, the S51/1 is a sought-after collector's item and a symbol of East German two-wheel culture.
