Production of the VW SP2 began at VW's partner Karmann in São Paulo in 1972. Within four years, approximately 10,000 of the cars were built. At first glance, the vehicle looks very sporty. However, the rear end houses a four-cylinder engine from the VW Type 3. The car produces only 65 hp and takes 17.2 seconds to reach 100 km/h. In Brazil, the abbreviation SP stands for "sem Potencia," meaning "without power." Nevertheless, the design is appealing and the ride comfortable.
